Online Dating Site Scams

I have always wondered why to free online dating sites offer the services for free. What benefit do they get or how do they profit? No one runs any business without making some profit out of it. They should at least be able to get the money that they invest in running these sites.
One of the ways how these sites make money is through online advertisements that are displayed in these sites. Each page will have loads and loads of advertisements and they can make lot of money through these advertisements. However, this is something that can be tolerated and not risky.
Whereas there are some sites that use our personal information in a wrong way. They will sell all our personal data to third parties and make a lot of money out of it. This can be a nuisance and also risky because we are not sure to what kind of people our data is sold. We will start getting spam mails as soon as we signup in some of these free dating websites. Before signing up in any dating website online make sure that you read their privacy policy; it should state something like, “we do not sell your personal data, it is only for our internal use”. Such a clear privacy policy can bring some security to our data however we cannot be 100% sure because there are many companies that sell our data in spite of their own privacy policy.
